The Influence of UX Design on User Retention and Conversion Rates in Mobile Apps
Abstrak
This paper explores the profound impact of User Experience (UX) design on user retention and conversion rates in mobile applications. As the mobile app market becomes increasingly competitive, understanding how UX design can enhance user satisfaction, engagement, and loyalty is crucial for developers and businesses. Through a comprehensive review of existing literature and statistical insights, this study identifies key UX design principles that contribute to improved user retention and conversion rates. Intuitive navigation, appealing visuals, performance optimization, and integration of user feedback emerge as essential components of effective UX design that drive app success. Applications that prioritize these elements foster a positive user experience, leading to higher engagement and greater retention. Additionally, UX design strategies, such as personalization and customization, have been shown to significantly increase conversion rates, demonstrating the critical the role that tailored experiences play in app success. By analyzing these principles and their impact, this paper provides valuable insights for developers aiming to enhance user satisfaction, optimize app performance, and ultimately improve business outcomes.

User Experience (UX), as a theoretical and practical field of research, is based on the theory of Human Computer Interaction (HCI), studies systems, products, and services in the field of (mainly) Information Technology (IT), and aims at user satisfaction and better, more pleasant and more efficient interaction with systems. The popularity of Mobile Device Applications (MDAs) in the last decade has introduced new interaction environments and thus the need to formulate, develop and adapt to them, theories, and methods of UX. We present UX as a theoretical and practical framework and record its methodology - both the general one for various systems so far, and the specific one for Mobile Device Applications and more specifically for those that project cultural content in conventional ways and through augmentation. As part of the research, high-fidelity prototypes were designed and were tested during a user survey (usability test, questionnaire) for extracting conclusions to improve the design of the application.

The mobile app market has grown over the last decades. With the rise of app stores, users can easily choose an app from thousands, making them less tolerant of low-quality apps. More than ever, users are looking for apps that provide not only valuable functionalities but pleasurable experiences. Hence, User eXperience (UX) became the differential to stand out from competitors. By understanding what factors affect UX, practitioners could focus on factors that lead to positive UX while mitigating those that affect UX negatively. In this context, reviews from app stores emerged as a valuable source of information to investigate such factors. However, analyzing millions of reviews is costly and time-consuming. This paper presents UX-MAPPER, an approach to analyzing app store reviews and supporting practitioners in identifying factors affecting UX. We applied the Design Science Research method to design UX-MAPPER iteratively and grounded on a solid theoretical background. We performed exploratory studies to investigate the problem, a systematic mapping study to identify factors that affect UX, and an empirical study with 14 participants with experience in requirements engineering to determine the relevance and acceptance of our proposal from practitioners’ perspectives. The participants considered it useful to improve the quality of existing apps and explore the reviews of competing apps to identify functionalities and features that users are requesting, liking, or hating. They were also willing to use it when it became available, highlighting our proposal’s usefulness and relevance in software development.

Abstract Creating emotionally engaging mobile applications requires consideration of constantly evolving technology, content richness, usability, and user experience (UX). UX plays an important role in promoting long-term usage. We focused on the emotional aspects of UX design of mobile applications. In particular, we adopted the concept of feelings of being (FoB) – also known as existential feelings – in the context of mobile UX design. We presented an in-depth literature review covering 112 articles (2005–2021) on human-computer interaction, UX, mobile application development, mobile learning, and emotional engagement. Of these articles, 16 discussed FoB in the context of mobile applications. Building on the results of literature analysis and other previous research, we presented a FoB model for mobile application design comprising 13 FoB (ownership, engagement, contribution, security, trust, adjustability, enjoyment, empowerment, effectiveness, frustration, excitement, gratification, and needs fulfilment) and the hedonic and eudaimonic aspects of UX. Finally, we validated the FoB model through nine design projects, proposed design recommendations based on the model, and presented considerations on extending the model with additional elements.

To deliver the best user experience (UX), the human-centered design cycle (HCDC) serves as a well-established guideline to application developers. However, it does not yet cover network-specific requirements, which become increasingly crucial, as most applications deliver experience over the Internet. The missing network-centric view is provided by Quality of Experience (QoE), which could team up with UX towards an improved overall experience. By considering QoE aspects during the development process, it can be achieved that applications become network-aware by design. In this paper, the Quality of Experience Centered Design Cycle (QoE-CDC) is proposed, which provides guidelines on how to design applications with respect to network-specific requirements and QoE. Its practical value is showcased for popular application types and validated by outlining the design of a new smartphone application. We show that combining HCDC and QoE-CDC will result in an application design, which reaches a high UX and avoids QoE degradation.

As businesses extend their online offerings, demand for UI-UX and digital services is increasing. Both in-house teams and agencies will be under pressure to offer services on time, with the total number of internet users worldwide increasing by 301 million since April 2019 (We are Social). After the covid-19 it's demand in e-commerce market is also increasing exponentially. In this paper User-centred design (UCD) method is used to process the whole prototyping. User flow is also discussed based on 3 levels(launch screen, create and account, home screen). The test result for the sample prototyping were the app's design elements with 4 points being the most common response on the scale of 5, the main menu page and its experience with 5 points, and the overall UI-UX of the app with 5 points.
